MD CHEER SEASON AT A GLANCE

All-Star Season

MD all-star gyms follow the national USASF calendar — tryouts April–May, competitive season October–April. Maryland's proximity to Northern VA and DE means many families have a wide range of high-level gyms within driving distance. Local bid events run throughout the mid-Atlantic from November through March.

School & Rec Season

MPSSAA school cheer runs fall (football) and winter (basketball/competition). Pop Warner rec programs typically run August–November. Many private schools in the DC suburbs run year-round competitive cheer programs. The MD Scholastic Cheer Association also hosts competitive events for school teams.

Mid-Atlantic Tip

Maryland families in the DC suburbs often train at gyms in Northern Virginia or Southern Pennsylvania — both are within an easy commute. If you're not finding the right program within MD, the Delaware and Pennsylvania pages include programs just 30–60 minutes from most MD locations.
