What Is a Summit Bid?

A Summit bid is an earned invitation to The Summit — the end-of-season championship for Level 1–5 all-star teams, held at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando each May. Bids are awarded at Summit bid events throughout the season and through a season-long at-large leaderboard of top scores. Sibling events extend the postseason: The D2 Summit serves smaller (Division II) gyms and The Youth Summit serves younger divisions.

How Summit bids are earned

Varsity-designated Summit bid events award bids across the season at their bid reveals, just like Worlds bid events do for Levels 6–7. The Summit adds a second path: a cumulative season leaderboard where the top scores by division across Summit bid events earn at-large bids — so a consistently excellent team can qualify without winning a bid outright at a single event.

Types of Summit bids

  • Paid bids — full or partial money toward championship costs, awarded to top finishers at bid events.
  • At-large bids — invitation only, no financial coverage; earned at events or via the season leaderboard.
  • Wildcard bids — a Summit-specific entry point: wildcard teams compete in an additional wildcard round for the chance to advance into the main event.

D2 Summit and Youth Summit

The postseason splits so teams compete against true peers. The D2 Summit is reserved for gyms with USASF Division II (small-program) status, and The Youth Summit gives younger divisions their own championship stage. Bid mechanics work the same way — earned at designated bid events during the season.

More questions, answered

Which teams compete at The Summit?

All-star teams in Levels 1–5. Teams in Levels 6–7 compete for Worlds bids instead — the level determines which postseason a team can target.

What is a wildcard bid?

A Summit-specific, entry-level bid. Wildcard teams compete in an extra preliminary round at The Summit for the chance to advance into the main competition.

What is the Summit at-large leaderboard?

A season-long ranking of top scores by division across Summit bid events. Teams at the top of the leaderboard earn at-large bids even if they never won one at a single event.

What is the difference between The Summit and The D2 Summit?

The events mirror each other, but The D2 Summit is reserved for gyms with USASF Division II small-program status, so smaller gyms compete against similar-sized programs.

When and where is The Summit held?

Early May, at ESPN Wide World of Sports near Orlando, Florida — closing the all-star season shortly after The Cheerleading Worlds.
