Sister event to UDA but with distinct scoring traditions and feel.

Each state athletic association runs its own. Texas (UIL), Minnesota (MSHSL), Iowa (IHSDTA) are particularly active.

Studios earn invitations to UDA/NDA Nationals through regional qualifying events.

Competition categories

Jazz

Strong jazz technique, performance quality, sharp execution. UDA jazz is its own aesthetic.

Pom

Sharp, controlled motions with pom-poms. Synchronization is paramount. "Hard sticks" win.

Hip Hop

In-sync choreography to hip-hop/R&B. UDA hip-hop is choreographic, not freestyle.

Kick

High synchronized kick lines. Texas drill team tradition. Precision over height for team scoring.

Contemporary / Lyrical

Available at some events. Emotional storytelling with strong technique.

Game Day Dance

Crowd-engagement focused. Authentic sideline performance evaluated.
