Plan to be at the venue 60 to 90 minutes before your first routine. Check-in, dressing rooms, and parking all back up on a busy competition day.

Costumes for every routine, quick-change essentials, spare tights and undergarments, a hair-and-makeup kit, and a music backup. Pack safety pins, water, snacks, and cash or card for admission and photos.

Many dance weekends pair a convention — master classes, often with an optional scholarship audition — with an adjudicated competition. Check whether your event is a convention, a competition, or both, since the schedule differs.

Most events charge admission at the door, sometimes cash-only. Photography and video rules vary by producer, and pro cameras or flash are often restricted. Awards run in sessions between performance blocks.
