All-Star dance scoring

The closest dance has to a standardized scoring system. USASF governs Senior Worlds, IASF governs Junior and Open. Both publish their score sheets annually — we link out to the official documents and explain what they actually mean.

USASF Senior Worlds scoring

Used at Senior Divisions at The Dance Worlds, plus available to USASF Member Event Producers during the regular season. The score sheet is reviewed annually by the Dance Score Sheet Committee.

Major scoring captions

  • Technique — execution of style-specific skills
  • Choreography — composition, musicality, transitions
  • Performance / Execution — confidence, projection, performance face
  • Group Execution — synchronization, uniformity, spacing
  • Choreography Difficulty — complexity of skills attempted
  • Style — appropriateness to the genre being performed

Style-specific nuance

Specific caption weightings vary by category. Pom emphasizes pom technique and visual cleanliness. Hip Hop emphasizes athleticism and authenticity. Contemporary/Lyrical emphasizes emotional connection and artistic interpretation. Defer to current published USASF rubric for exact weights.

Routine specifications

  • Senior Divisions: 1:45 minimum to 2:15 maximum
  • Junior Division: same time range
  • 50% of Senior teams minimum advance from Semi-Finals to Finals
  • Top 3 teams per country advance in Open Divisions

IASF Junior + Open

IASF governs Junior (U16) and Open Divisions at The Dance Worlds with a distinct rubric from USASF Senior. Junior teams qualify via video submission (not in-person performance) — separate process. Contact: dance.rules@iasfworlds.com.
